Dijon city center will soon change its pace at night. The city council adopted Monday, September 27 the project to highlight the main monuments of the city around the rue de la Liberté.

This project follows a participatory consultation. “This consultation focused on the uses of the rue de la Liberté today, on its use by the public, what characterizes it and its identity in the near future”, said Nathalie Koenders, first deputy (PS) to the mayor of Dijon during the city council.

“This consultation received 1,700 responses and the people of Dijon overwhelmingly want the rue de la Liberté to be a symbol of heritage and the art of living by particularly highlighting several emblematic places in the heart of the city”, she added.

Several monuments will thus be highlighted between Place Darcy and Place Saint-Michel.

The city chose the project “The reflections of gold” proposed by the Dijon architectural firm Godart and Roussel and the lighting designer Distylight. The architectural firm is already at the origin of several projects in the metropolis. He had been talked about in 2019 by offering a glass roof to rebuild Notre-Dame de Paris.

It will be financed by the city to the tune of 400,000 euros, by the regional council for 225,000 euros, by private project leaders for 200,000 euros and finally by EDF and the Caisse des Dépôts for 800,000 euros.

Work could begin in the first half of 2022, for commissioning “no later than November 2022”, according to Nathalie Koenders. Stack in time for the holidays.

In response to questions from the opposition on the energy cost of this project, the elected official specified that the use of LEDs will allow lower expenses than existing lighting.
