15 young people from Navarra have participated in the “Xacobeo Joven 2021”, organized by the Instituto Navarro de la Juventud (INJ), in which they left the Galician town of Sarria to complete the last 5 stages of the Camino de Santiago on foot. The group was accompanied by the first vice president of the Government of Navarra, Javier Remírez, on his departure from Roncesvalles on June 29.
The young people of Navarra, holders of the Youth Card and aged between 18 and 24, come from different towns in the foral territory such as Betelu, Lodosa, Cintruénigo, Cascante, Pamplona / Iruña, Ansoáin / Antsoain and Tudela. Completing the last 5 stages of the Camino de Santiago on foot, which gives them the prize of receiving the Compostela. This document, granted by the ecclesiastical authorities, certifies the completion of the Camino de Santiago.
A trip with a cultural component
In the first days of the pilgrimage, the participants, assisted by a bus and by various cultural guides, have known historical-artistic enclaves in addition to completing different routes of the Camino de Santiago on foot, as a training before the final section.
The group visited Eunate and Estella-Lizarra in Navarra and the Monasteries of Suso and Yuso in San Millán de la Cogolla, as well as Santo Domingo de la Calzada, in La Rioja. Once in Castilla y León, he visited the Museum of Human Evolution and the Monastery of Las Huelgas reales in Burgos. In Leonese lands, in addition to the Cathedral of León, the young people enjoyed the area of Las Médulas and the city of Astorga.
100 kilometers on foot to reach the Obradoiro
Already in Galician territory, the group completed the last 5 stages on foot to Santiago de Compostela, more than 100 kilometers through the towns of Sarria, Porto Marín, Palas de Rei, Azua, Monte do Gozo and Santiago.
