Natural gas has become almost 10 percent more expensive in one day. Reason: some climatic models predict a harsher winter than expected.

The Dutch TTF-Future, a reference price for natural gas, added almost 10 percent on Monday to 78 euros/MWh. An absolute record. It concerns the price for the supply of natural gas in October.

Traders refer, among other things, to new climatic models, which point to a colder than expected winter. “That causes nervousness,” says Matthias Detremmerie, trader for energy supplier Elindus.

The rising oil price – oil has been rising for five days in a row – also plays a role.
