Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Russian fighter jets were deployed to “escort” a United States Air Force (US) aircraft. The US plane was said to have approached Russian airspace over the Pacific Ocean on Sunday (26/9/2021).
“Three Russian Sukhoi-35S warplanes have been deployed to escort the US B-52H strategic bomber, which is approaching Russian airspace,” TASS reported citing Russia’s National Defense Command Center.
“The fighter crew identified the target as a US Air Force B-52H strategic bomber and escorted it across the Pacific Ocean.”
The US plane was asked to stay away. But in fact no border violations were violated.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon has not provided comment. Launch CNN International, this incident is not the first time that happened in the last year.
Last March, 10 US aircraft for NATO purposes were deployed to track and intercept Russian bombers and fighter jets. This relates to tensions in the North, Black and Baltic Seas.
