Advancing technology will allow the market for vehicle geolocation and monitoring devices to double in the next five years, according to estimates from the National Association of Vehicle Tracking and Protection Companies.
The association estimates that there are 2 million vehicle tracking and geolocation devices installed in the country, which took 15 years to install, but in the next five years it is expected that at least another 2 million devices will be installed. .
David Román, CEO of Stop and Track de México, a company dedicated to the placement and management of geolocation devices for the automotive and logistics sector, commented that its sales have grown in double digits in the last two years.
Stop and Track developed location devices that can be monitored from a mobile application on a cell phone, and now not only can a vehicle be located, the technology allows to record video and audio in the cabin, and monitor units on a single platform.
The company has transport and logistics clients that work directly with Amazon and Mercado Libre, as well as other private clients, such as a motorcycle club in which a GPS has been installed and a panic button that warns if the motorcycle crashed or if it is being towed without latching.
In the case of heavy trucks, the company installs geolocation and video in the drivers’ cabins.
Stop and Track considers that the new obligation to have a video camera in all public transport units in the State of Mexico and Puebla will trigger the sales of these equipment that can also record audio in the cabin and have a panic button.
“The devices are now very small and accessible. Years ago you had to make an investment almost equal to the cost of the vehicle, but now in a single box you can have a large number of technologies, “said Román.
The approximate cost of this technology is 350 to 390 pesos per month in a subscription plan, but if you want to install a more complete equipment for the company to monitor its fleet, it can cost around 10,000 pesos.
Román stressed that this technology not only helps with the issue of security but also that customers in the transport sector use it to better control cargo and shipments from the time they are on the way to when the delivery is evidenced with a photograph or a barcode and that information is linked to the platform.
In this way, it is possible to generate savings of between 15% and 20% in fuel consumption, which is the second most important operating expense of a company.
Stop and Track highlighted that not only transport and logistics companies use this vehicle tracking technology but also private cars. In fact, 20% of the company’s customers are private cars.
Also in the financial sector, vehicle rental companies have their units monitored in case they are stolen.
