Nationalgeographic.co.id–Bat Vampire is an animal that is quite unique but quite scary too. This animal only consists of 3 species among more than 1,300 species that exist in the world. These three species, among others bat vampire normal (Desmodus rotundus), bat vampire hairy feet (Diphylla ecaudata), and bat vampire white wings (Diaemus young).
Despite being referred to as vampire, species bat drinker blood this does not consume blood by biting, unless he will lick blood prey after slashing the body part near the artery of the prey.
Bat vampire really thirsty blood, but that doesn’t mean they can’t drink together bat–bat others around. He tends to only consume blood with only the closest people.
Fights can occur between bat because of an open wound after slashing an animal that was careless and careless. However, bat in one community (children and mother or their friends) often work together to drink blood away from their nests, the researchers report Sept. 23 in PLOS Biology.
Bat vampire (Desmodus rotundus) can form long-term social bonds with each other through grooming (process of taking care of each other), sharing food blood spit out, and generally hang out together on the perch. However, does the friendship that occurs between relatives and non-relatives, extends to night hunting bat? Researchers have not found clarity on this behavior.
Has a light and agile body, bat vampire it’s hard to notice their presence, even if they’re drinking blood You. Different from bat normal, bat vampire can walk, run, and jump. They have strong hind legs and thumbs that help them jump and take off more easily.

Coupled with the ability of echolocation, which allows them to see in the dark. This is what makes the vampire bat a bloodsucking creature that is good at sneaking. You won’t know you’ve been bitten by this vampire if you don’t notice the bite marks. Or, you are not aware of contracting a disease that it carries. Hopefully this doesn’t happen.
“They fly together to and fro, but we don’t know if they still interact with each other,” said Gerald Carter, an evolutionary biologist at Ohio State University in Columbus.
To find out, Carter and company Simon Ripperger from the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin, building on previous research that uncovered the social network of colonies using bat backpacks. Tiny computer sensors glued to 50 female bats in Tolé, Panama, continuously record proximity to other sensors, both inside the nest and outside. The indications show when the bats meet while looking for food.

Bats with companions rarely leave their nests together, suggesting they don’t carry out a tightly coordinated hunt, Carter said. However, bats with a history of socializing with each other were more likely than alien bats to meet in the field and likely eat together, the researchers found.
Meetings with community friends also lasted longer, on average, than other interactions. That’s especially true for bats with lots of perch companions.
“It was a more or less haphazard encounter,” Carter said.
He suspected that the bats mostly forage alone. However, when they encounter a bat that is friendly with a cow, for example, they will eat together rather than fight or fly off in search of other food. Cutting a fresh wound can take 10 to 40 minutes, says Carter, so sharing it with friends can save time and energy for these bloodthirsty bats.
