The New Variant Corona Virus R.1 Becomes the Attention of US Researchers, Has Been Detected in 47 US Countries, Danger?

SRIPOKU.COMUnited States researchers are paying attention to the new variant Corona Virus R.1.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that the R.1 variant is linked to an outbreak that occurred in a nursing home in Kentucky in March 2021.

During the outbreak that occurred in a Kentucky nursing home, 46 cases of Covid-19 were identified in 26 residents, of whom 18 were fully vaccinated, and 20 health care workers, of whom four were vaccinated.

Infection rates in unvaccinated residents are three times higher than in vaccinated residents.

Meanwhile, among health workers who were not vaccinated, the infection rate was 4.1 times higher than that of health workers who were vaccinated.

Three residents of the nursing home died, including two who were not vaccinated.

However, the US CDC has not determined the R.1 variant as a variant of concern (VoC) or variant of interest (VoI).

Variant characteristics R.1

The CDC states that the R.1 variant has several important mutational characteristics, such as increased viral transmission, reduced effectiveness of convalescent and post-vaccination therapies, and the potential to reduce the effectiveness of neutralizing antibodies.

Although vaccination was associated with a reduced likelihood of transmission and symptomatic disease, 25.4 percent of nursing home residents who had been vaccinated and 7.1 percent of nurses who had been vaccinated remained infected.
