Aaron Ramsey could be allowed to leave Juventus for free in January if he indicates his desire to join any of his three remaining Premier League contenders, according to a report.
Ramsey was an outstanding player during his previous stint in England with Arsenal, where he made 371 appearances. At the end of his contract in 2019, he opted for a new challenge in Italy with Juventus. However, he has struggled to regain the form he has shown in the Premier League.
The Welsh international started just 11 games in his debut Serie A season and followed it with just 13 starts last season. As Juventus’ third biggest payroll earner, this is clearly not going to be planned for either side. With that in mind, a return to the UK has been speculated for some time.
Ramsey was linked with several Premier League clubs over the summer. A report earlier this month confirmed he rejected several opportunities to fight for his place in Turin. But with just one start since Juve’s first five games, Ramsey can have his doubts.
According to The Sun, the prospect of a transfer in January is increasingly likely for the midfielder, who will then be 31 years old. Moreover, Juventus are ready to sanction his exit without transfer fees, despite his contract until 2023.
Given that they acquired him for nothing in the first place, such a move wouldn’t be a loss for Juventus. Besides, they would take his big salaries off the books. But if he wants similar conditions at his next club, that can be a problem.
First line wants Aaron Ramsey transfer
The report reveals that West Ham, Everton and Newcastle remain interested in the Cardiff City academy product. All three clubs were due to bring him back to the Premier League this summer. However, in August it was claimed that West Ham was walking away from a deal over Ramsey’s salary.
It remains to be seen whether the Welshman is ready to drop his demands to facilitate a return to the Premier League. But it may be necessary if he wants to make such a gesture.
Ramsey won five trophies during his time in England, lifting the FA Cup three times and Community Shield twice with Arsenal. He won three honors with Juventus, but was not the protagonist of any of those successes.
A transfer would apparently benefit him to get back on track as the twilight of his career approaches.
