Last Saturday, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reported slightly more than 2000 positive tests, the Saturday before more than 2200 and the Saturday before there were more than 2700 new cases.
In the past seven days, RIVM registered 11,743 positive tests. On average, that equates to 1,678 new cases per day. That is the lowest level since July 7, the start of the fourth wave. In the seven days to last Saturday, there were 14,465 positive tests. The number of cases has thus fallen by almost 19 percent. That is the largest weekly decline since August 9, just after the peak of the fourth wave.
Deaths
Rotterdam had the most positive tests. In the Maasstad, 119 people were told that the virus was found in them. The Hague had 73 confirmed infections, Amsterdam 71 and Utrecht 36. Ede is in fifth place for the third consecutive day, now with 32 positive tests. No one tested positive in 76 municipalities.
The number of deaths rose by two. It concerns residents of Utrecht and Nijmegen. This does not mean that these people died last day, it sometimes takes a while before the death of a patient is registered. In the past seven days, RIVM received 38 reports of deceased corona patients, an average of more than five a day. That week sum is slightly lower than the previous days, but that does not mean that the death rate is falling.
At the end of February last year, the corona virus was first diagnosed in the Netherlands, with a resident of Loon op Zand in Brabant. The counter now stands at 1,994,901 positive tests. At the beginning of next week, an infection will probably be diagnosed for the 2 millionth time. At least 18,149 people have died from the virus. The actual numbers are higher.
