NASA: Blue Origin lawsuit could delay Artemis mission to 2024

WASHINGTON – NASA’s plans to send humans back to the Moon on the Artemis mission in 2024 may be delayed.

director NASA Bill Nelson admitted that he could not confirm when the Artemis mission could actually be carried out. This was made by Nelson in response to an Associated Press question about the continuity of the 2024 Artemis Mission.

“For now we don’t know. We will move on with all deliveries as soon as the legal realm is completed,” he was quoted as saying IFL Science, Saturday (25/9/2021).

Intrigued by the answer, Business Insider contacted NASA and confirmed that Nelson was referring to the Blue Origin lawsuit.

As is known, former US Vice President Mike Pence announced in 2019 that the US would put a man on the Moon again in 2024. At that time, a number of critics were very skeptical of Pence’s statement.

With no company building landing systems, such a short deadline seemed unlikely. Although the rapid development of private space companies offers a glimmer of hope (and a share of the budget).

After NASA announced that SpaceX won the contract for the moon mission flight, Blue Origin filed a lawsuit. This condition causes NASA to be unable to confirm that the Artemis Mission will continue in 2024.
