Millions of cars move on the streets of the Russian capital every day. Despite high prices, many Russians now want to buy a new car.
Tomáš Duchoň has been the head of Škoda car sales in Russia for one year. According to him, car dealers are doing well despite a large increase in prices, people are said to have more purchasing power and want to shop. Due to the huge demand, the prices of used cars are also rising in Russia.
“You are currently selling a three-year-old Kodiaq at a higher price than you bought it,” Duchoň said.
Annexes or pandemics have affected the market
Most cars in the last ten years were sold in Russia in 2012, almost three million cars. At least – one million three hundred thousand – in 2016 due to sanctions after the Russian annexation of Crimea. And also last year, when car sales were slowed down by a pandemic in the spring.
“Analysis of the car market shows that we can sell 1.6 million cars this year. Now this number could be even higher, “estimates Andrei Petrenko, vice-president of the Association of Car Dealers in Russia.

The lack of chips for passenger cars has affected almost all world car manufacturers. Some of them, including the Czech Škoda, had to stop production due to this. This will also affect the number of cars sold in Russia.

According to experts, the problems with the shortage of semiconductors will not be eliminated in the coming months, and it will complicate production for large car manufacturers until 2023.
