GUARD lung health is a very important thing. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic like now, the infectious virus can attack the lungs very quickly.
In addition to exposure to the Covid-19 virus, the General Chair of the Indonesian Lung Doctors Association (PDPI) dr Agus Dwi Susanto, SpP(K) revealed a number of other diseases that attack the lungs.
“There are five respiratory diseases that have the greatest impact on the health system. Namely, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma, acute lower respiratory tract infections, tuberculosis (TB) and lung cancer,” he said at the World Lung Day virtual press conference, Friday (24/9/2021).
Therefore, ahead of World Lung Day on September 25, he reminded the importance of maintaining lung health. There are four simple ways to keep your lungs healthy. Anything?
1. Say no to tobacco and vaping
Tobacco or cigarettes cause 8 million deaths each year and are the main cause of lung disease. This is because cigarettes contain more than 4,000 chemicals and most of them are toxins that can cause cancer.
For those of you who already smoke, it is advisable to stop in order to restore some of the damage caused by cigarette smoke to the lungs. Quitting smoking is also important to prevent chronic lung disease, which when it occurs it is difficult to return to normal.

Likewise, vaping or e-cigarettes, which have a lot of evidence, can damage lung tissue and lower the body’s resistance to infection and cancer. The emissions released by these devices are also harmful to the lungs.
2. Protect the lungs by vaccination
As we know, vaccines work by recognizing and preparing the immune system to recognize and fight viruses and bacteria. Well, vaccination can also protect from several causes of infectious diseases and maintain lung health.
Pneumococcal pneumonia, Covid-19, influenza and pertussis are some of the respiratory infections that can be prevented by vaccination. Not only protecting yourself, vaccination also helps protect others. Vaccination can also stop the spread of infection.
