As a child of a pianist Nami Ejiri born in Tokyo. Her grandfather’s extensive classical record collection and piano lessons with Takahiro Sonoda, who had worked as a pianist with Herbert von Karajan and Sergiu Celibidache, aroused her love for European music at the age of three. She completed her studies at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Prof. Lev Natochenny with distinction. Nami Ejiri has won numerous international piano competitions. In 2002, her debut CD with the recording of Modest Mussorgski’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” and the adaptation of the opera “Boris Godunov” by Piano News was chosen as the CD of the double month. Other notable recordings followed: “Bunte Blätter” and a “Chopin” CD on the Organo Phon label and a CD with late works by Franz Schubert on GENUIN classics. Nami set another important accent with her CD ‘Nami plays Diabelli Variations – Beethoven and more’, which was released in 2016. Numerous concert tours have taken the pianist around the world. Nami Ejiri recently received a great response from the public at the Alte Oper Frankfurt and at the Rheingau Music Festival. Michael Schmidt was born in 1969 in Bad Langensalza / Thür. He received his first clarinet lessons at the age of nine. After five years at the Special School for Music in Weimar, he began studying music at the “Franz Liszt” University of Music in Weimar in 1987. In 1990 he switched to Prof. Hans Dietrich Klaus at the Detmold University of Music, where he finished his studies in 1996 with the artistic maturity examination in the field of clarinet. Before he came to the Staatstheater Darmstadt, where he has been the first solo clarinetist since 1994, he was employed by the Philharmonic Orchestra Dortmund and the Philharmonia Hungarica in Marl. He was also engaged in various productions as solo clarinetist with the Saarland Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Frankfurt Opera House and Museum Orchestra and the Kassel State Theater.
