The new OS will be able to be installed on any PC, but there is a catch…
However, Microsoft has allowed the installation of the new Windows 11 operating system on computers that the company says are obsolete. These are laptops and desktop PCs that do not meet the system requirements for Windows 11, considered by many to be overrated, technews.bg reports.
Microsoft has repeatedly stated that it will fight all methods of installing Windows 11 on “inappropriate” computers. The company reacted in a similar way when hackers discovered an error in the Windows 11 installation system that allowed to bypass all hardware restrictions in no time.
Now the situation has changed, but what prompted Microsoft to reconsider its attitude toward consumers who do not want to invest in upgrading their computers (or even buy new ones) for Windows 11 remains unclear.
There is at least one giant trap in Microsoft’s decision to allow everyone to install its new operating system. The company began talking about an “amnesty” for obsolete computers less than three weeks before the release of Windows 11, scheduled for October 5, 2021. After actually lifting all pre-set restrictions, Microsoft transferred full responsibility for the operation of such computers on the shoulders of their owners.
The Windows 11 installation system will continue to verify that the user’s computer meets the minimum requirements. If the hardware is inappropriate, then a user agreement will appear on the screen, which talks about the age of the computer. The document also contains a clause that Windows 11 installed on such a computer will not receive updates, Neowin said.
Microsoft has not yet specified what updates are in question – general, changing the capabilities of the OS itself or security fixes. In addition, the text of the message states that Microsoft will not be liable for damage to the computer due to its non-compliance with the requirements of Windows 11.
Windows 11 needs an AMD Ryzen 2000 or later processor, and in the case of the Intel platform, at least an 8-generation core processor. In addition, the new OS requires at least 4GB of RAM and at least 64GB of storage.
By comparison, Windows 10 can be satisfied with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The current version also does not have as strict processor requirements as Windows 11.
