They called it “the project of the century”… It became a black hole.

MEB made a new agreement worth hundreds of millions of liras for the FATIH Project, which has turned into a black hole. Within the scope of FATIH Project, another 408 million TL will be spent to establish network infrastructure for schools.

AKP government,Project of the century in educationA new one has been added to the heavy expenditures made for the FATIH Project, which started out in 2010 with the announcement of the “FATİH Project” but could not reach the target despite the intervening 11 years. Within the scope of the project, which was removed from the scope of the Public Procurement Law in 2016 and turned into a black hole for the education budget, a contract worth 408 million TL was signed to establish a network infrastructure for 7 thousand schools.

FATIH, which started in 2010 and is said to be completed by 2014, could only reach 70 percent realization rate at the end of 11 years.. Although the Covid-19 outbreak has changed the priorities in education for educators, parents and students, the Ministry of National Education (MEB) has made a new agreement worth hundreds of millions of lira for its project.

BLACK HOLE GROW

According to the news of Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün; In the 11-year period covering the years 2010-2021, the Ministry of National Education spent nearly 15 billion TL within the scope of the FATIH Project. The Ministry did not give up on the project, whose failure was documented with data, during the epidemic process. While millions of students and parents criticize the inadequacy of the practices for preparing schools for the epidemic due to the resource problem, the Ministry of Education added a new one to the expenses it made within the scope of the FATIH Project.

Within the scope of the project, which set out with the claim of distributing tablets to all students, While the number of students handed out tablets remained at 1 million 130 thousand, the lack of infrastructure in schools made the applicability of the project even more difficult.. The Ministry of National Education undersigned another expenditure for the project, the failure of which was also revealed by the reports of the Court of Accounts. A contract worth 408 million 789 TL was signed within the scope of the service procurement made by the General Directorate of Innovation and Education Technology within the scope of “exception”.

JOB GIVEN TO TWO COMPANIES

The work to be done with the partnership of Verify and Proday companies includes “the installation of network infrastructure in 7,000 schools”. The work, which started on June 4, 2021, will be completed on November 26, 2022. The approximate cost of the work was announced as 822 million 468 thousand TL.

SMART BOARD BECOME A BLACKBOARD

Within the scope of the project, MEB purchased tens of thousands of smart boards, each of which costs approximately 35 thousand TL. Smart boards could not be used in many schools due to technical failure. When teachers were not adequately informed about the use of new boards, smart boards became ‘Blackboards’. Some of the schools could not benefit from smart boards because they did not have an internet connection.
