At the latest when the sun begins to stand lower, it is hiking time. A benefit for body and soul can be felt if you go out into nature and don’t think about anything other than the next step.

There are hiking inspiration with GPS data, maps and stop recommendations www.darmstadt-dieburg-entdecken.de. You can also find references to farm shops, local brands and products as well as events on this website.

Klinger Storch Weg – hiking on the trail of the stork and nature

Along the beautiful, 9-kilometer circular route that starts at the Otzbergschule, you hike for around 2.5 hours and pass Lengfeld, Hering and Nieder-Klingen through an open hilly landscape. The highlights are the stork’s nest and the fortress Otzberg, which can be seen from afar. There is also a lot to see: the Heringer town hall, which is equipped with a pillory, the Heydenmühle with its fragrant herb garden, the Bundenmühle, where the television series “These Drombuschs” was once filmed. The views, which in good weather extend to the Fankfurt skyline and into the Taunus, are fascinating. “Bernie’s Bistro und Café” or the “Farm Café Grünewalds” provide food and drink.

Accessible nature experience in Traisa

On the barrier-free circular route you can enjoy nature and the landscape, even if you want to be slow and only want to walk short distances. It is well suited for excursions with children and the elderly, the first section is passable for wheelchair users. The path leads past the swimming pool to a bird pond, where benches invite you to rest and watch birds. Roll-off stops and stand-up aids were installed there. From the bird pond, the path is no longer suitable for wheelchair users, as it rises by 10% over a total length of 90 m. You continue on an agricultural path with a gentle slope (3%) towards the riding stables and pass the Otto-Krämer-Hütte to the Birkenberg. Then the slightly sloping route points back to the starting point. It takes three quarters of an hour for the total of 2.3 kilometers. Not far away, numerous restaurateurs invite you to stop off: The “Äppelwoigadde and Pichlers Restaurant” in the Hotel Waldesruh, the “Restaurant in the Bürgerhaus”, the “Villa Trautheim”, the “Dippelshof”, the “Sushi Café Sushije” or the “Ice Cream Boutique” Da Carlo ”and many more.

Where the Fischbach murmurs into the Gersprenz

The varied hike leads with inclines from Groß-Bieberau to Fischbachtal and offers wonderful views. You should plan 4.5 hours for the 13-kilometer route from the “Im Briebel” leisure area. The tour initially follows the course of the stream, then to the edge of the forest on the Gaßnersberg. A beautiful view of Lichtenberg and the Fischbachtal opens up here. Once you have reached Lichtenberg Castle, you can enjoy the wide view over the hills of the Odenwald. From here you hike to Rodau and continue, past the Schuchmannsmühle, onto Hohe Straße. The Heidekopf car park is passed with a neighboring refuge. If you have provisions with you, you can take a break here. It is then not far to the starting point. There are a number of places to stop for a break: in Groß-Bieberau, for example, the restaurant “Zum Deutschen Haus”, the “Blaue Hand”, the “Caffè Molentino” or “Eis-Wennel”. In Fischbachtal the Gasthof Brunnenwirt “Zum Meenzer” or the “Dorfschänke” serve food and drinks.

Hiking parking spaces: walk, walking tour and hike

If you are in the mood for beautiful hikes, walks or walking tours without much planning and would like to arrive by car or bike, the hiking parking lots are well advised. Vehicles can be parked safely here, and overview boards show the possible hiking trails and their markings precisely. Since the routes are mostly shorter, those who want more can also combine different routes. Darmstadt-Dieburg has a total of 43 parking spaces for hikers with 115 designated hiking trails, which together add up to a remarkable 460.8 kilometers. Some parking spaces are also easily accessible by public transport.
