Frankfurt/Main The decision of the health ministers to cancel the continued payment of wages for unvaccinated people in quarantine has met with different reactions. Criticism comes, among other things, from the head of the German Trade Union Federation (DGB), Reiner Hoffmann. And VdK President Bentele also expressed “huge concerns”.
The social association VdK and the German trade union federation (DGB) criticized the decision, but the municipalities approve it. The chairman of the World Medical Association, Frank Ulrich Montgomery, spoke of a correct measure.

The health ministers of the federal states agreed on Wednesday that unvaccinated people in quarantine should no longer receive compensation for the loss of earnings from November 1 at the latest. There should be exceptions for those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons and who have a certificate for it. Citizens who have not yet received a public vaccination recommendation should continue to pay.

VdK President Verena Bentele expressed “huge concerns”. “Somehow this is now becoming a compulsory vaccination through the back door in Germany,” she said on Wednesday evening on the Phoenix TV station. There are still quite a few people who do not yet have a certificate for a chronic illness because there are not yet sufficient studies. “And especially for people who are worried about getting vaccinated and not receiving a certificate, the existence of a threat would be very severe,” said the VdK President.

Persons who suffer loss of earnings due to an officially ordered quarantine are entitled to compensation under the Infection Protection Act. An exception is provided there, for example in the event that the quarantine could have been prevented by a vaccination. The countries have to pay the compensation. Baden-Württemberg was the first state to announce that it would make use of the exception in the Infection Protection Act.
