Brussels, Sep 23 (EFE) .- Acquiring works of art is usually a privilege of a few due to the high price of the pieces, however, the “Affordable Art Fair”, which has just opened its doors in Brussels, seeks to bring all audiences to the world of art collecting with “affordable” works whose prices range between 50 and 7,500 euros.
This exhibition brings together paintings, sculptures, photographs and other works of contemporary art by living artists and its objective “is to encourage more people to discover the pleasure of collecting art,” according to the fair’s director, Blythe Bolton, in an interview with EFE. .
The 12th edition of the fair returns, after the suspension in 2020 due to the pandemic, with around 1,000 works of contemporary art from more than 70 local, national and international galleries, including two Spanish ones.
In this exhibition you can find pieces of all styles and artistic techniques, such as black and white photographs, very colorful canvases that resemble graffiti, oil paintings or three-dimensional flower paintings made with recycled plastic.
Paintings with a humorous background are also for sale, such as the portrait of Lionel Messi wearing a Real Madrid shirt and one of Cristiano Ronaldo wearing a Football Club Barcelona shirt.
Technology also plays an essential role in the creation of very particular works, since whoever wishes can have their irises photographed in a size of more than one meter in diameter hanging in their living room.
In addition, the fair exhibits works by both emerging artists and established authors. “Here everyone is welcome in that sense,” stressed Bolton, who assured that visiting the fair is also an opportunity to see works by renowned artists such as the British Banksy and Damien Hirst.
In addition, this year the “Affordable Art Fair” collaborates with Think Pink, a charity against breast cancer, which has partnered with the artist Kim Verbeke, who has created works in ceramic with the shape of a miniature breast, whose benefits are will go to the association.
Visitors with a reduced budget can approach some walls in which all the works of less than 1,000 euros are exposed.
The fair director pointed out that society in Brussels shows great passion and respect for art, and many people enjoy attending events like this where they find a welcoming atmosphere.
The buyers have different profiles and are of all ages, because as Bolton recalled, a few years ago a 10-year-old boy convinced his parents to use all the money they had given him on his birthday to buy a piece that he had liked.
Bolton stressed that this edition of the “Affordable Art Fair” can be very favorable, since after the restrictions imposed during the covid-19 pandemic, people pay more attention to taking care of the environment where they live, so art is a fundamental element to create a “more comfortable and pleasant” environment in homes.
“One of the most exciting things about this fair is that we are a global organization, so we host art exhibitions around the world, from Melbourne to New York and across Europe,” explained the director.
In this sense, he assured that the exchange that takes place between all the participating galleries, which come from countries around the world, among which you can find Korea, Spain and Germany, is “very nice.”
“This is a very special edition for us because everyone has been waiting for more than 500 days to be able to open the doors again,” said Bolton, who recalled that this fair receives between 15,000 and 17,000 visitors, so it is a great news that it is now possible “to enjoy art together again,” he said.
