Step- Seven minutes from the end, El Paso Locomotive scored the goal that put them up on the scoreboard, but in added time they allowed a score and returned from their visit to the capital of Texas with a point in the bag, tying on Wednesday night 2-2 with Austin Bold FC.
Diego Luna and Aarón Gómez from Durango were the scorers for the El Paso squad, while goalkeeper Logan Ketterer shone with five saves to avoid more damage in the border goal.
With this result, the Locos reached 47 units, the product of 13 wins, two losses and eight draws, and they remain in first place in the Mountain Division in the Western Conference of the USL Championship.
The game began with scoring opportunities in both goals, in one of them El Paso striker Lucho Solignac had a shot that went into the hands of goalkeeper Elliot Panicco. Luna was close to opening the scoring, but her shot also fell into Panicco’s hands.
Despite the fact that Locomotive had greater possession of the ball in the first half, it was the home team that opened the scoring in the 31st minute with a header from Stefano Pinho.
Austin seemed to settle for the minimum advantage and gave the initiative to the El Paso machine, which was rewarded at minute 70 when Sebastián Velásquez and Luna connected well and the latter took a shot that beat Panicco for the equalizer.
The pressure from the Locos continued and paid off in the 83rd minute with Gomez’s goal. And when it looked like Locomotive was coming home with three points, Sonny Guadarrama hit the back of the net to give Austin the tie and a drive.
The next game for the El Pasoans is on Wednesday, September 29 at Southwest University Park, when they host Real Monarchs from Salt Lake, in what they have called the ‘Noche de Locos’.
