Helse vest pays 2.4 million in annual salary to the ex-boss for three years after he left last year.
Last year, Inger Cathrine Bryne became the new director of Health West, with an annual salary of NOK 2.1 million. After she took office, former top manager Herlof Nilssen was allowed to keep the annual salary of 2.4 million for three years after he stepped aside, writes Klassekampen.
Chairman of the board Einar Strømsvåg in Helse vest says the board has complied with an agreement with Nilssen.
– The previous leader used the right to resign and keep his salary for three years when he was 62. In return, he makes himself available to the board for the three years, he says.

Strømsvåg states that Nilssen is now working on an IT project on behalf of the chairman of the board. He is chairman of the board of Sykehuspartner, which is a very important partner for Helse vest, and is also on the board of the University of Bergen.
– He is an important resource for Health West, and it is important for me to emphasize that we would of course have said yes if he had wanted to continue as CEO until he turned 65, says chairman Strømsvåg.
Nilssen, who was CEO of Helse vest from its establishment in 2001 until last year, does not want to comment on the matter to Klassekampen.
