The call was made by US President Joe Biden during a speech at the United Nations on Tuesday. “We must seek a greater future of peace and security for all in the Middle East,” Biden said on the opening day of the UN General Assembly.
“I continue to believe that a two-state solution is the best way to ensure the future of Israel as a Jewish democratic state, living in peace with a viable, sovereign and democratic Palestinian state,” he said.

Biden added, “We are far from that goal at the moment, but we must not allow ourselves to give up on the possibility of progress.”

Biden repeated his promise to return to a 2015 deal to curb Iran’s nuclear program, provided Tehran does the same.
