In the United States, more than 675,700 people who became infected with the new corona virus died on Monday afternoon, according to the most recent tally from the institute. According to historians and the US health service, the Spanish flu killed at least 50 million people worldwide, including 675,000 in the US.
The Spanish flu is therefore no longer the worst pandemic in recent US history, at least in absolute terms. But unlike Covid-19, this pandemic wreaked havoc on age groups believed to be healthy, including people between the ages of 20 and 40 and children under 5.
