4 tons of hashish seized, sent via the Canary Islands and transported from the Port of Alicante | Radio Alicante | Present

The Civil Guard and the National Police have intervened almost four tons of hashish and have arrested four people in a macro operation against a group of drug traffickers.

Presumably, they used the Canary Islands as a new route of entry to the peninsula and Europe and had a company that was in charge of transporting the merchandise to the peninsula through the port of Alicante, hiding it in large wooden compartments in sea containers.

Before sending the illegal substance to Madrid, where it was stored in industrial warehouses, the organization “cooled” it in establishments and premises in the Canarian archipelago to ensure that they would not be discovered.

They also carried out counter-surveillance work for several weeks in ports and in places that they intended to use to store hashish.

The investigation began when the agents became aware of the existence of a route to introduce narcotic substances into the peninsula with a previous stop in the Canary Islands, a novel technique to try to evade police action.

They focused their investigations in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Alicante and Madrid and discovered an industrial warehouse in the Madrid town of Leganés, where two trucks loaded in a very short time.

Shortly after, the agents intercepted a large cargo van in a town in Toledo, where they found 1,274 kilograms of the highest quality hashish. It was then that the macro-operation was launched to arrest all the members of the network simultaneously: two lieutenants of the organization in Leganés; the leader, a Spanish citizen living in the Canary Islands who controlled all operations from Las Palmas; and a third lieutenant who tried to hide after discovering that the plot was dismantled, but was eventually located.

The security forces have dismantled all drug collection and storage sites in Madrid and the Canary Islands.

At a “cooling” point, a pallet with 730 kilos of high-quality hashish was found and another 1,782 kilos were seized in the port of Alicante.

In addition to the drugs, two vans, a vehicle, a motorcycle, 5,280 euros in cash, various computer equipment and documentation have been seized.
