Tennis – Laver Cup: mode, participants
How exactly is the Laver Cup going if it only lasts three days? Two teams compete against each other in the tournament: Team Europe and Team World. Both teams consist of six professionals each, the respective captains not only nominate two players each, but also determine the line-ups for the tournament days. The remaining professionals are determined by the ranking.
The captains do not compete themselves, the name of the coach or team boss explains their role here more appropriately. In the case of the Europeans it is once again 65-year-old Björn Borg, in the world selection again it is 62-year-old John McEnroe.
In use for Europe:
Alexander Zverev (Germany)
Daniil Medvedev (Russia)
Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece)
Andrey Rublev (Russia)
Matteo Berrettini (Italien)
Casper Ruud (Norway)
In action for the world selection:
Reilly Opelka (USA)
John Isner (USA)
Nicholas Kyrgios (Australien)
Diego Schwartzmann (Argentina)
Denis Shapovalov (Israel)
Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canada)
There are three individual games and a double duel on the program per game day, always over two sets won. The winner receives one point on Friday, two points on Saturday and three on Sunday. The winning team must reach 13 of 24 points. If there is a tie after all twelve matches, there is an additional decision double.
