After the final of the European championship in Spodek in Katowice – in which the Italian team turned out to be better than Slovenia after an exciting match – we got to know the most valuable player of the tournament.
He was selected just before the Italian volleyball players appeared on the top step of the podium, and the choice fell on the quarterback Simone Giannelli. This decision may be a bit surprising, as many saw the host Alessandro Michieletto in the role of MVP, who is considered by experts to be the revelation of the whole season.
It was an important moment for the Italians, because for the first time in 16 years they could enjoy the title of European champions. Late in the evening, however, was stolen by the Poles who climbed the podium by a forward coup, and then received medals from Michał Kubiak. It was the captain of the white and red staff who was the main character of the show. He stimulated the fans to be happy, and at the end he made a mini round with the cup that the Poles received for the third place in the tournament. The biggest ovation in the stands was caused by the moment when Kubiak handed the bronze medal to coach Vital Heynen. Perhaps for the Belgian it was the last appearance as the coach of the White and Reds.
