Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic share a negative Grand Slam record

With 20 major titles each, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic were the most prominent players in majors alongside Rafael Nadal. Roger and Novak are at the forefront when we talk about the number of major finals played, with Djokovic leveling Federer in the 31 finals after an incredible season in the most notable scene and four major title games in 2021.

As mentioned earlier, Novak and Roger have won 20 of these finals, and they top the charts when we talk about the number of major finals lost in the Open era. Two legends are tied with Ivan Lendl on 11 points, so Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal are at the top with eight defeats in the major final.

Ivan Lendl won eight major crowns from 19 finals, fought for the first major trophy and ended his career with 11 defeats in the most remarkable games. Roger Federer was far from that number after winning the first seven major finals he competed in before Rafael Nadal defeated him at Roland Garros in 2006.

Up to the US Open 2007, the Swiss had secured 12 major titles from 14 finals and suffered his only defeat against Nadal in Paris. Between 2008 and 2015, Roger finished second in eight of his 13 major finals before returning with two Australian Open and a Wimbledon crown in 2017 and 2018.

In his last major final, Federer lost two match points against Novak Djokovic in this epic Wimbledon final in 2019, which went into a decisive tie-break at 12:12 and lasted almost five hours.

Federer and Djokovic suffered eleven defeats in the major finals

Roger Federer joined Ivan Lendl in eleven major finals defeats, and Novak Djokovic joined the group last Sunday in New York.

The Serb suffered a 6: 4, 6: 4, 6: 4 defeat against Daniil Medvedev in the title fight of the US Open, could not win the 21st major crown and reach the first calendar Grand Slam since Rod Laver in 1969. Novak won five of his first seven major title fights before suffering five losses between Roland Garros between 2012 and 2014, despite having an advantage over his rivals in those years.

The Serb is 14-4 in the last 18 major finals since Wimbledon 2014, equals Federer and Nadal in 20 major titles, but still loses enough title games to enter the exclusive group with Federer and Lendl.
