Presidents and ministers asked developed countries for sovereign debt relief and more funds to adapt to the effects of climate change.
Without announcing new commitments, Latin American governments held a virtual event to unify positions on climate policy two months after the United Nations COP26 summit. Presidents and ministers highlighted the effects of the climate crisis in the region and asked for more funds from developed countries and organizations.
The event, convened by Argentina, was attended by representatives of Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, Barbados, Ecuador, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, the United States and the United Kingdom, the venue for the next COP26. Brazil and Mexico, two of the largest emitters in the region, were not part of the event.
