This year, for the first time in the week of the birthday of the outstanding artist Džemma Skulme, a day dedicated to the artist Džemma in Mežaparks will take place with a diverse program of activities.

During them, there will be an opportunity to take a look at the future Jemma Skulme Art Space, the upcoming exhibition and Jemma Skulme Gymnasium year letters written by herself, schoolmates and parents.

Jemma days in Mežaparks in the artist’s house and workshop (11 Stockholm Stokholmas Street) will take place from September 20 to 26.

In preparation for the centenary celebration of the artist, creator of art life and prominent politician of the Awakening Jemma Skulme, which will take place in 2025, an extensive project to identify and preserve Jemma Skulme’s heritage has been announced. the process of digitization of the artist’s cultural values ​​under the guidance of the family of the authors of the idea Inga Šteimane and Džemma Skulme.

Visitors to the Jemma Day in Mežaparks will be introduced to the concept and direction of the Jemma Skulme Art Space project during the week. There will also be an opportunity to look at unique materials from the family archive, which will create an upcoming exhibition entitled “Moin, moin, Mālpils swallow!” This story about the lesser-known Jammu Skulmi will be available in the exhibition from January 2022. Within the framework of the Jubilee Week event program, the exhibition “Family” by Džemma Skulme’s grandson Artūrs Dimiters will be opened, as well as several creative workshops will be held under the direction of artists Sigita Daugule and Artūrs Dimiters.

«With Jemma Days in Mežaparks, a new tradition is established in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods of Riga – Mežaparks. Jemma Days in Mežaparks is planned to be held every year during the artist’s birthday week in September and together with the activities of the Jemma Skulme Art Space will be dedicated to a thorough and detailed study of Jemma Skulme’s biography and work, as well as to a wide audience. Following the inexhaustible creative spirit of Džemma Skulme, the Džemma Skulme Art Space will also organize a diverse program of cultural events. That is why Jemma Days in Mežaparks invite both big and small, »informs art scientist and curator Inga Šteimane.

Within the framework of the Jemma Days in Mežaparks event program from September 20-26 it will be possible to:

-to get acquainted with the renovated part of the building, project concept and vision of the future Džemma Skulme Art Space

-to see the exposition created for Jemma Skulmi, which will provide an insight into the exhibition “Moin, moin, Mālpils swallow!”

-participate in the creative workshops of Sigita Daugule and Artūrs Dimiters

-At the end of the art days, the exhibition “Family” by Jūrm Skulme’s grandson Artūrs Dimiters will be opened, which will be on view from September 24 to November 7.

-20, 21, 22 and 24 September – from 12 to 18, September 23 – from 12 to 16.

-24. September at 6 pm – 7 pm – Opening of Artūrs Dimiters’ exhibition “Family”

-25. September from 12 to 13.30 and from 14 to 15.30 – a creative workshop inspired by J. Skulmes 60.-70. years of authoring techniques under the direction of artist Sigita Daugule; from 4 pm to 6 pm – free visit

September 26 from 12 to 13.30 and from 14 to 15.30 – a collage workshop led by the artist Artūrs Dimiters; from 4 pm to 6 pm – free visit

Working hours of the exhibition: 25.09.-07.11.2021. – Wednesday to Sunday, from 12:00 to 18:00 Admission to the Jemma Skulme Art Room and participation in creative workshops free of charge.
