The health crisis finally got the better of some sports halls in Papeete. After 4 years of operation, “Focus Arena”, located in the very center of the capital and owned by Christian Wan Sang, is lowering the curtain.

With two other establishments, it is the 3rd physical culture center that is shutting down. In four years of existence and no less than 25 million francs in turnover at the start of 2020, the sports hall has been forced to close its doors for lack of activity.
Despite the aid made available by the State and the country to enable the sector to maintain itself, the health context has had an impact on the operation of this company. The charges having been maintained, 2 million francs per month, the brand has to date accumulated 15 million francs in debt. Its manager, Christian Wang Sang, says their profession has been left behind.
“We must review the tax policy, because it is a real obstacle course to get help.”
The sports coach goes further. He denounces the lack of support and a contradiction from the authorities in matters of health policy. He affirms in particular that the decisions taken by the country to limit the effects of the pandemic go against the will of the latter to put in place lasting and sustainable actions, such as the fight against obesity.
“We must put them back at the heart of the overhaul of health policy, for that the country must count us among the players. If they need me to do it, I am willing to put in place a real sport first policy. “
