Gambling is almost no longer possible, because all major sports competitions of, for example, the Basketball League, the Hockey League and horse racing are on their ass.
Extorting restaurants is no longer an option either: they are all closed, as are many construction sites. The mafia in New York is also strong in the garbage collection market, but there is currently no dry bread to earn there either.
Luckily still drugs
The police sources call it ‘historic’ how bad the mafia families are doing. “A lot of people live off the money that crime makes,” says one of them. He estimates that the losses amount to more than 10 million dollars.
There is a bright spot for the mafiosi: the drug trade is not affected much by the corona crisis. “Deals are still being made.”
