A group of young people from the Chaumes district in Montauban attacked an 82-year-old man and his family last week at their home. An investigation is underway and favors for the time being the trail of a neighborhood quarrel.
A grandfather hospitalized in serious condition, a residence Michèle Morgan in shock. “Friendly and discreet,” according to his neighbors, Mohamed is an 82-year-old retiree. Ex-lumberjack, he lives with his wife in this recent building, more dedicated to the elderly and people with reduced mobility. In his apartment, located on the third floor, he has not gone out for a year and no longer ventures out onto the terrace. He hardly goes to the living room with his wife.
More and more disabled, he spends most of his days in his room, lying in a medical bed. Her daily life is punctuated by visits from nurses and her daughters, including Siham, 39, who is a family caregiver to take care of her father.
This already fragile life will then turn, last week, into a nightmare.
Stunned by morphine
Long after the curfew time, a group of young people broke into Mohamed’s apartment. It was around 7:30 pm A real ambush, a punitive expedition, according to Mohamed’s family. “They wouldn’t allow my sister to tell them not to squat in the hall of the building. She just also told those who did not live in the building that they had nothing to do there, ”says Siham. In a crush of “incredible violence”, Mohamed fell, that moment, heavily, in the entrance of his apartment.
Hospitalized in serious condition, the octogenarian has not returned home for a week. “He has a fractured femur. At the moment, they still cannot operate on him. His state of health does not allow it. He is knocked out by morphine, ”says his daughter, who was authorized to see him on Monday at the Montauban hospital center.
A “neighborhood quarrel”
Investigators from the Montauban police station are responsible for carrying out the investigations. In the early hours of their investigation, they ruled out any motive linked to drug trafficking. They now evoke the idea that it could be “a neighborhood quarrel” that would have gone wrong. So far, no suspect has been arrested.
For Siham and his family, this is one incident too many. “They want to pretend that my father got confused by me. No ! I did not put my life on hold to take care of my father to go and knock him down with a cane. I made him slowly back into the apartment to protect him. I felt a blow. “
Mohamed’s family asked the landlord to move to a district of Montauban where they would feel safer. For a week and until further notice, a security company has also been making night rounds around the building concerned.
