Diesel particulate filters still raise questions. And also worries. Škoda therefore accommodates a program focused on their service.

The first particulate filters appeared in Europe at the turn of the millennium, with the advent of the Euro 3 standard. Since 2005, when Euro 4 came into force, the number of vehicles equipped with them has increased significantly. However, some models, more precisely their versions, still fit into the then limit of solid particles in the flue gas. However, the stricter Euro 5 standard valid from the period 2010-2011 has already required the installation of DPF for diesels. For Škoda cars, DPF has already been offered for TDI units with a pump-nozzle fuel system. However, we are talking about the previous decade … How to treat diesel particulate filters and how do domestic carmakers solve a possible problem with them? Surely you know that the service life, and therefore the functionality, of a particulate filter depends very much on the style of use of the vehicle, and its long-term survival requires at least basic knowledge of its driver. “Particulate filters in Škoda cars are designed to be refilled if the customer behaves according to the instructions in the on-board literature and, in the event of a DPF warning, allows the driving style to run a self-cleaning cycle,” says Škoda Karel at the beginning of the filters. Old, head of Škoda Auto service Czech Republic. And he adds: “Škoda Auto offers the replacement of the old DPF with a new part at a discounted price for selected engines. The conditions for exchange and obtaining a price advantage are simple, the customer will have the original DPF removed, or will hand over the original filter when buying a new one. The customer is entitled to the benefit if the returned part does not show signs that it has been improperly handled, for example opened or otherwise devalued. “

If you want to know how your car’s filter is, you can have it checked by an authorized Škoda service center. “The service technician will use the original diagnostics to check the level of clogging and recommend further action. In the event that the filter is brought to the level at which the situation needs to be resolved, the entire exhaust system goes through diagnostics and all potential faults are checked, ”specifies Karel Starý. It should be added here that Škoda Auto does not offer its customers refurbished filters or their specific cleaning by service. That is, the service would remove the clogged filter, send it somewhere, and it would then be returned to him cleaned. “This is a part that is exposed to high temperatures and demanding operation during its life, so it would not be possible to guarantee its further long-term and trouble-free functionality,” adds Karel Starý.

Today, petrol engines also use the filter. How are they doing with durability and service? “We do not have an exchange program for OPF petrol filters at the moment. Experience has shown that they are generally maintenance-free. The diagnostics of the OPF filter status is identical to the diagnostics of the DPF filter, “concludes Karel Starý.
