Poll: What do Latvians expect from officials?

With the onset of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Latvia, 38% of the population expect more thoughtful decisions from the government and the Saeima in order to support entrepreneurs, according to a survey conducted by Baltic International Bank.

When asking the population what they expect at the beginning of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Latvia and what support entrepreneurs would need the most, most often or 38% of respondents indicated that well-thought-out decisions are needed from the government and Saeima, while 17% indicated that downtime benefits are also needed. . The third most popular answer chosen by 16% of the population was the provision of employee benefits by the state.

7% of the population believe that in the third wave of the pandemic, credit holidays in cooperation with banks and credit institutions could be necessary for entrepreneurs. The same number of respondents indicated that specific grant and support programs could promote entrepreneurship.

Older people consider the decision-making of the government and the Saeima to be more important, because young people under the age of 29 chose this answer only in 20% of cases, but respondents aged 60 to 74, more than twice as often or 46%.

On the other hand, the opposite situation is observed in the response to downtime benefits, as younger people mentioned this tool as support for entrepreneurs in 28% of cases, but as the age increased, fewer and fewer respondents chose this suggestion.

The population survey was commissioned by Baltic International Bank and conducted by the research company Norstat in early September 2021. It was attended by more than 1,000 Latvians aged 18 to 74.
