France recalls ambassador to United States of America and Australia after the two countries cooperated on nuclear submarines. French reportedly disappointed with Australia canceling a deal to buy French submarines in favor of US ships.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian announced the summons of the two ambassadors. French ambassador to the US, Philippe Tienne confirmed the news when contacted by CNN.
“(Due to) the seriousness of the announcement made on September 15 by Australia and the United States,” Le Drian said in a statement.
Le Drian said Australia had betrayed the submarine project that had been working together with France since 2016. France lost a contract to supply conventional submarines to Australia for $36.5 billion.

“We regret that they have taken this step, we will continue to engage in the coming days to resolve our differences, as we have done at other points during our long alliance,” the unnamed representative said,
The recall of the French ambassador from the United States and Australia, France’s main ally, is the first of its kind.
France also canceled a banquet at its ambassador’s house in Washington, USA, which was scheduled to take place on Friday (18/9). This event was supposed to celebrate the anniversary of the naval battle that defined the American revolution. France played an important role in this historic event.
