In Hofheim, the Rhein-Main Baskets receive Würzburg on Saturday
Hofheim season opener with a knockout game: For the Rhein-Main Baskets, the new season starts with a blast. On Saturday, the second division basketball team will host the Sharks from Würzburg in the 16th final of the German Women’s Cup. The game begins in the Hofheimer Brühlwiesen-Halle at 8 p.m. Spectators are admitted in compliance with the 3G regulation (tested, recovered, vaccinated).
Both teams have changed a lot in terms of personnel. Würzburg, the top team last season, lost its top throwers Paige Bradley and Katie Yohn. Both players went back to the USA. In return, however, with the 24-year-old Canadian Jessica Hanson, an actor from across the Atlantic was added as reinforcement.
Otherwise, the Franconians are now – like the Rhein-Main Baskets for years – more on promoting young talent. The squad consists of four national youth players from their own team in the female junior Bundesliga (WNBL).
A lot has happened in the baskets as well. The syndicate from Langen and Hofheim will compete without a foreigner. This gives your own players more time and responsibility. The new head coach Saymon Engler worked intensively with the young players in the summer. Together with the experienced Pia Dietrich, Svenja Greunke and returnee Alica Köhler, they were already able to show hopeful approaches in the preparatory games. Above all, the clear 78:56 victory in the friendly against the northern second division Grünberg gave courage.
A week later, the Rhein-Main Baskets also start the points round. An away game against the Dillingen Diamonds starts on September 25th. The 2nd Bundesliga South consists of twelve teams in the coming season, including the Falcons Bad Homburg, ASC Theresianum Mainz and cup opponents Würzburg. joi
