Are Cuban vaccines against COVID coming to Mexico?
After attending the Military Parade for the 211th Anniversary of Independence as guest of honor, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of Cuba, and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, held a private meeting at the National Palace, reported the Cuban Foreign Ministry in its official Twitter account.

The Mexican president was accompanied by the Secretaries of Finance, Foreign Relations and Health, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, Marcelo Ebrard and Jorge Alcocer, respectively.
In addition to Lázaro Cárdenas Batel, coordinator of the president’s advisers; Hugo López-Gatell, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion; and Alejandro Svarch, head of Cofepris.
The Cuban delegation was chaired by Bruno Rodríguez, Minister of Foreign Relations.
During his speeches issued within the framework of the Parade, the Mexican President called on the United States government to lift the economic blockade against Cuba, while the Cuban president thanked these demands as well as the solidarity that Mexico has always shown towards them.
Last august 30 the Committee of New Molecules of Cofepris issued a favorable opinion for the authorization of emergency use of the Cuban-made Abdala vaccine against COVID-19.
In a statement, the agency explained that the biological is made with the recombinant protein of the receptor-binding domain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
It is the first vaccine of Latin American origin to be held by the CMN of Cofepris. The favorable technical opinion represents an advance in the approval processes necessary for the fulfillment of the quality, safety and efficacy requirements, essential when considering a product.
