We are very happy with Discord and the possibilities and also pay a lot for our server (~$600/year). In addition, most of the servers I’m on are paid, so the exact opposite of your list.
Aside from the servers, about 10% of the people I know subscribe to Discord Nitro ($100/year) because they like to pay to use a good platform, just like me.

The reason why I’m responding to your post is because I’m also wondering how they should become profitable, especially considering they’ve started paying server subscriptions this week halved to have. We don’t know yet whether this will remain permanent, but it is an interesting twist.

We all do need voice chat (always people), (game) streaming and webcam meetings, game tracking (no other tracking, it just shows your activity) and notifications on all available platforms if something happens.
With us it has also completely replaced WhatsApp.
