There are six agents on horseback who will patrol the Camino de Santiago in the coming weeks with the aim of giving greater security to the pilgrims who travel the Jacobean route as they pass through the province of León.
During its stay, this equestrian unit of the National Police will place special emphasis on the 15 kilometers of the Camino that cross the municipality of Ponferrada, a way of giving greater ‘visibility and relevance to the capital of Bierzo within the Jacobean route’, explained the Mayor of Ponferrada, Olegario Ramón.
Coming from its headquarters in Madrid, the unit has been presented in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Ponferrada in a simple act attended by the clerk, the president of the León Provincial Council, Eduardo Morán and the deputy delegate of the Government in the province of León , Faustino Sánchez.
Also joining the reception of the unit were the superior chief of the National Police in Castilla y León, Juan José Campesino, and the provincial chief commissioner of operations of the National Police, Abelardo Ramos.
