Hamburg’s taxi industry is slowly recovering from the corona crisis | NDR.de – news

Status: 15.09.2021 7:59 a.m.

The Hamburg taxi industry has a lot more to do than it did in the spring. According to the providers, business is going better with the increasing corona easing.

For a long time, the drivers kept themselves afloat with patient trips to the doctor or hospital and were on short-time work. Now there is more going on in Hamburg overall and the demand for taxi rides is increasing. You are not completely at the level of before the pandemic, says Thomas Lohse, the board member of Hansa Funktaxi. Operation is around 70 percent, he estimates. According to Thomas Münch from the online portal Free Now, this cannot be said in general terms, but he confirms to NDR 90.3 that bookings have increased significantly since the end of the summer holidays.

Business customers are missing

What is still missing are business customers who land at Hamburg Airport in the morning, leave the city in the evening and take a taxi in between. According to the traffic authority, there are around 3,000 taxi concessions in Hamburg. In the meantime, however, every fifth car has been deregistered from the company.
