Eduardo Cabrita says that hearing about Sporting’s festivities is “truly from the past season” – O Jornal Económico

The Minister of Internal Affairs is being heard in Parliament due to the celebrations of Sporting Clube de Portugal within the scope of the 2020/2021 championship victory. Eduardo Cabrita assumed that this “is a truly last season’s audition”, since the celebration in the Marquês de Pombal took place last May, noting that it “doesn’t make any sense”.

The PSD deputy, Duarte Marques, assumed that the minister “washed his hands like Pilatos” and that Eduardo Cabrita was not heard earlier in the scope of these celebrations only because the requests for a hearing were denied. This hearing follows from having been requested several times by the PSD, and now approved.

“The minister tells the PSP to obey the Lisbon Chamber and Sporting, he attributes the responsibility to the Lisbon Chamber. We tried to listen to the Lisbon Chamber, but the PS failed the hearing once again”, said Duarte Marques at the beginning of the hearing to the minister. In response, Eduardo Cabrita again refused the Ministry of Internal Administration’s responsibility for organizing the event.

Eduardo Cabrita assumed that the hearing “can only exist because, in relation to a matter that is designated in the request as ‘SCP celebrations’, the Minister of Internal Administration determined, in view of doubts in the public space, on May 12th, the holding of an inquiry by the IGAI, and on the 16th of July the report of that inquiry was presented and the order on the same was presented by myself”.

The Minister of Internal Administration, heard by the parties in the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, stated that “it is the entity that celebrates that must determine the framework for its realization.” “It is up to the PSP, the Ministry of Internal Administration, to maintain the conditions of public order appropriate to the characteristics of the event”, noted the government official.

“You ignored the PSP warnings, ignored the DGS warnings and preferred to let the party continue uncontrolled, and then accused the PSP of not having fulfilled its role”, said the PSD deputy.

Duarte Marques also recalled that during the festivities the state of calamity was in effect, and the Ministry had special powers to act in the face of the situation that occurred.

Eduardo Cabrita recalled in Parliament that he was the minister “who was most often in debate, always available to respond to any availability on any topic”. “I attended 19 plenary debates and eight parliamentary committee hearings”, recalling the last session.

The PSD deputy assumed that Cabrita should not congratulate himself on his presence in the Assembly of the Republic, noting that this reveals some “incompetence”. The PCP deputy, António Filipe, also supported the perspective of deputy Duarte Marques.
