Canada – “Mad Max” help: – Fascist psychopath

NEW YORK (Dagbladet): On September 20, Canada goes to the polls. Lately, Bernier (58) and his party, the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) have been gaining ground. It could divide voters on the right and ensure that Trudeau and his center-left party win re-election, writes Reuters and Washington Post.

On social media, Bernier has recently repeatedly called Trudeau (49) a “tyrant” and a “fascist psychopath” – especially for dealing with the corona pandemic.

Secret documents

Bernier withdrew from the Conservative Party in 2018 after losing a leadership battle. In Canada, he also became famous for his resignation as Secretary of State in 2008. It happened after he left classified documents in the apartment of an ex-girlfriend who allegedly had ties to the Hells Angels, according to the Washington Post.

In the 2019 election, Bernier’s party received only 1.6 percent of the vote, but now the party is around 9 percent in the polls. It is higher than the Greens, but a good distance away from Trudeau’s Liberals and the Conservatives, who both have around 30 percent support. However, the PPC can steal enough voters from the Conservatives for the Liberals to run away with the victory, writes Reuters.

According to the news agency, it is closures and anger over bandage orders and vaccine rules that have made his party grow in the polls.

Several provinces in Canada require a vaccine certificate to eat at restaurants or attend sporting events. Trudeau also wants to make the vaccine mandatory for travelers on domestic planes and trains and for public sector employees.

– Tyrants

Bernier, for his part, has begun using inciting rhetoric similar to that used by former US President Donald Trump.

“When tyranny becomes law, revolution will be our duty,” Bernier said during an election campaign meeting on September 5, according to Reuters.

Several of his supporters have also turned up at Trudeau’s election rallies to protest. A local PPC shop steward was expelled from the party on Tuesday after being accused of throwing gravel at Trudeau.

– They are responsible for their own actions. We need an ideological revolution. I’m not asking anyone to be violent. “I ask people to get up and speak out,” Bernier told Reuters.

«Mad Max»

The Canadian politician was nicknamed “Mad Max” after the famous character of Mel Gibson during the leadership battle he lost in 2018. Bernie photoshopped his own head on top of Gibson’s body in a Facebook post. There he listed everything he was angry about, including waste of public funds and “politics as usual.”

Bernier also became internationally known in 2019 when he launched a brutal attack on the then 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on Twitter.
