Apple unveils the iPhone 13 Pro, the best iPhone yet

Apple has just presented its new premium smartphone during its back-to-school keynote. Here are the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, the best iPhones out there.

After months and months of intense rumors, Apple has just unveiled its new flagship, the iPhone 13 Pro, accompanied by its XXL variant, the iPhone 13 Pro Max. While it retains the chassis of the iPhone 12 Pro, Apple’s flagship smartphone has taken a new step in mobile photography, and offers a number of new features.

The design remains the same, but Apple is introducing new colors this year. The Pacific Blue model of the iPhone 12 Pro gives way to Sierra Blue on the iPhone 13 Pro. We always find the classic colors Graphite, Silver and Gold.

The first real novelty is its new screen. The size doesn’t change from last year – 6.1 inches for the iPhone 13 Pro and 6.7 inches for the iPhone 13 Pro Max – but the technology is changing. It is still a Super Retina XDR display, but it now supports ProMotion, allowing its refresh rate to be automatically adjusted according to the content displayed, up to 120 Hz (finally!).

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max also offer, for the very first time, a reduced notch. This has not completely disappeared, but it is now less wide without compromising on the TrueDepth system, necessary for the proper functioning of Face ID. It is also still the only way to unlock the iPhone 13 Pro, with the classic alphanumeric code.

On the photo / video side, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have taken a real step forward this year. They still offer three sensors on the back – four if you count LiDAR – but these have been vastly improved. The telephoto lens changes to an X3 zoom, the ultra wide angle will perform 82% more in low light, and the main sensor has been enlarged and should be 2.2 times more effective in low light conditions. Apple also introduces a macro mode without the need for a dedicated sensor, and taking advantage of the ultra wide angle. Also, all cameras now have access to night mode.

The iPhone 13 Pro will also be capable of filming in ProRes format, a sort of equivalent to ProRAW for video allowing to retain as much information as possible and aimed above all at image professionals. It’s called iPhone 13 “Pro” after all. This feature will not be available at launch, however, but later this year. We also take advantage of Cinematographic mode, also available on the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini. On the iPhone 13 Pro, we can nevertheless generate additional background blur.

Finally, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro incorporate an A15 Bionic chip, Apple’s new SoC in-house. This is touted as being 60% more powerful than the top performing competitor chip. Obviously, this chip is compatible with 5G, and it even allows the iPhone 13 Pro to take a step forward in terms of autonomy. Thanks to the A15 Bionic chip and larger batteries, the iPhone 13 Pro offers 1.5 hours more battery life compared to the iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max up to 2.5 hours more autonomy compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will be available for pre-order from this Friday, September 17, 2021, for a launch expected the following Friday, September 24. The iPhone 13 Pro starts at € 1,159 euros, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max starts at € 1,259 euros. For the most storage-hungry, we can also count on a new 1TB variant, ideal for taking advantage of all the advances in video of this new iPhone.
