Before the weekend, the prince received the lawsuit from Virginia Giuffre, who says she was sexually abused by him while she was a teenager.
The lawsuit was filed in the Prince’s home in Windsor, England, on August 27, according to a New York court ruling.
Andrews’ lawyer in New York says he intends to challenge the US court on whether it has violated his rights in the Giuffre lawsuit, according to Reuters.
Andrew claims that the lawsuit was not properly served on him. An agent for Giuffre says he delivered it to a police officer at the gate of Andrew’s residence, without meeting the prince himself.
Giuffre says she was “lent” to the prince for sex by the American financier Jeffrey Epstein who was a good friend of the prince, and who committed suicide in a prison in New York in 2019 while he was waiting to be tried for human trafficking and abuse of minors.
She says she was exploited by the prince both in Epstein’s millionaire home in Manhattan, on his private island in the Caribbean and at the home of Epstein’s friend Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell is in custody, also accused of human trafficking.
The 61-year-old prince has denied having a sexual relationship with Giuffre. He told the BBC in November 2019 that he does not remember having met her, despite the fact that there are pictures of the two together.
