While State College got busy on Friday with an energy not seen in nearly two years as the Nittany Lions prepared to host a full capacity home game since November 2019, the future of Penn State gave fans a lot Reason to look forward to what’s to come.
As it stands, Penn State is # 1 in the nation with oral pledges from the class of 2022, according to 247Sports.
On Friday, the third-highest-ranking Nittany Lions nominee in the class entered Berks County’s record book.
Governor Mifflin high running back Nick Singleton racked up 154 yards of rushing and four touchdowns to go with one touchdown on Friday, according to stats from Reading Eagle sports reporter Rich Scarcella, who covered Singleton’s game.
Governor Mifflin beat Cocalico High 56-0.
Through three games that season, Singleton rolled 580 yards and 13 touchdowns. Pennsylvania’s No. 2 in 2022 averages 193.3 yards of rushing per game this year. After opening the season with 287 yards of rushing and five touchdowns against William Penn High, the senior rushed another 139 yards of rushing and three touchdowns against Wilson High.
Singleton, a four-star contender, verbally pledged itself to Penn State in early July.
While Singleton was making history in Berks’ County, Ohio four-star quarterback Drew Allar was making record books in his corner of Buckeye State.
According to Rivals’ Ryan Snyder – who attended Allar’s game – the Medina High Senior was 28 out of 47, reaching for 523 yards with five touchdowns.
NEO Zone HS Sports tweeted on Friday. Allar’s 523 yards ranked fifth all-time single game in northeast Ohio and 27th in the state, “according to the OHSAA record book.”
Medina High def Stow High, 38-27.
Allar signed up to Penn State in early March.
Singleton and Allar weren’t the only Penn State commitments to go on outstanding trips this week.
IMG Academy’s four-star 2022 contender Kaytron Allen joined Singleton as the future Nittany Lion, who is running back with an impressive start of the season.
IMG Academy’s Number 2 posted on Friday, with the help of Allen’s legs, Miami Northwestern, 52-21. According to MaxPreps’ Mitch Stephens, Allen has hit 36, 34, 31 and 10 yards. In three seasons Allen collected 3,077 yards with 41 touchdowns as a preparatory perspective.
Allen signed up to Penn State in July and currently serves as the 18th.
Recruiting is the lifeblood of a college football program, and if eight-year-old Penn State coach James Franklin can get the 24 class pledges of 2022 to sign, the 2022 Nittany Lions recruiting class will be the best he has in his 11 years as a head coach has put together. Franklin coached Vanderbilt from 2011 to 2013.
It’s a no-brainer that top-notch recruiting classes are usually translated into top-notch programs. Look no further for evidence than Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Georgia.
There’s still a lot of high school football to play, which means there will be more than enough time for other 2022 class commitments to keep up with Singleton, Allar and Allen performances this week.
For this week, however, Penn State fans should be more than optimistic about upcoming talent in Happy Valley.
