The ombud receives several inquiries annually, from people who have to pay for women’s haircuts, despite the fact that they have short hair.
“Unfortunately, there are still many hairdressers who have gender-segregated prices,” says adviser Shorish Azari in the Equality and Discrimination Ombudsman to NRK.
He refers to section 6 of the Discrimination Act, which states that it is prohibited to discriminate on the basis of, among other things, gender.
– Basically, the practice of men’s and women’s haircuts is not legal, says Azari.
