Although the fashion of the SUV is wandering more and more around the world, the station wagon remains the ideal of a family car. The interior space is far more from the floor plan than from the height, which is doubly true of a suitcase. The Hyundai i30 reassured us again, with which we covered 7,000 kilometers in three months. We did not miss anything in it and a look at the price list confirms that it is a good choice for a family coffers.

Hyundai i30 is no newcomer to our site. It celebrated its premiere five years ago, followed by modernization last spring, during which time it passed a number of tests. In his honor, it must be acknowledged that even after such a time, he does not lose his elegance. European designers who sew coats for Hyundai hit the exact center – lively, dynamic, but not aggressive, it does not incite anyone and they do not want anyone.

As usual, in the middle of his career, the news is not tested on the car, but on the essence and endurance. The three-month test then represents a real load test. No car can reshape for such a long time, and various character defects gradually come to the surface.

Here is the first good mark for the Hyundai i30. Our impressions from the usual weekly tests have withstood even longer acquaintances, his nature is not insidious. On the contrary, we have automated some of the complexities of touch screen control so much that we have almost stopped bothering us.

The advantage of the long floor plan described in the introduction is fulfilled by the i30 without error. Four adults can sit in a long cabin without difficulty and manage a longer journey. Everything you need will also be taken by a suitcase, the volume of which just exceeds the magical limit of 600 liters.

On the other hand, the i30 is the lowest of all today’s station wagons and it can’t be denied even in the cab. Under the low pillars, you can stretch out to the sporty low seats, which younger users will certainly appreciate more than advanced ones. Also at the back, it sits quite low on the floor, although none of the competitors have much to blame for Hyundai.

Beneath the hood of our car growled the most powerful engine in the i30 station wagon range, a supercharged 15-liter petrol engine accompanied by a small electric motor. The parameters 117 kW and 253 Nm look dynamic, but the serving is honey relaxed. Rather than tapping from an intersection, he can “sell” a continuous drive uphill. The additional two-clutch vending machine, which prefers fluency over emergency, also has its share in the calm nature.

The described features logically correspond to long-distance travel without the right to victory, and this is where the i30 convinced us of its qualities. From Munich to Lake Garda, it showed us what makes a capable ranger a capable ranger: quiet operation without vibrations, a forced reserve under gas, and gradation of power at higher speeds.

The low speed of the seven-speed automatic and the slight help of the mild-hybrid electric motor were reflected in the average consumption of 6.7 l / 100 km. We dare to say that a one-liter three-cylinder with manual transmission would say only a tenths of a liter less petrol on the same routes, but significantly more driver concentration.

During the long hours behind the wheel, the anatomical seats of the tested version of the N-Line were also a welcome support for us. Nevertheless, we consider its acquisition to be a matter of taste. It also includes large 18 “wheels, with which the car cannot handle impoverished Czech roads without sharp shocks. Otherwise, however, there are no comments on the chassis or the i30 steering. Thanks to the independent suspension, it can afford comfortably soft suspension without compromising dexterity.

At the same time, the i30 station wagon is not an overly expensive car. The basic versions with an atmospheric engine start at CZK 374,900, the tested top of the 1.5 T-GDI mHEV DCT N-Line Premium can be yours for CZK 624,990. No matter which brand of SUV you look at, it will always cost about one hundred and fifty thousand tracks and its biggest user benefit is the higher position of the seats. Nothing against their adventurous appearance, but as the classic says – station wagon is station wagon is station wagon.
