Renault Technologie Roumanie will manage the implementation of the Duster 3 project, the most complex so far, considering the transition to the new CMF-B platform and its commercialization both in Europe and in Russia, Africa and South America.
The Duster SUV, under the Dacia and Renault brands, records, on average, annual sales of 400,000 units worldwide, according to data from the Renault Group, and in eight years of production, which means a complete cycle, almost 3 millions of cars, worth about 51 billion euros.
The project of the third generation of the Dacia Duster SUV will be coordinated from Bucharest by the Renault Technologie Roumanie team and will be one of the most complex so far, considering that it will be produced in six factories worldwide and sold under three different logos.
“We are also here with Gilles Le Borgne, EVP, Engineering, Renault Group and we did not come empty handed, but with Duster 3. We have now transferred the project to Renault Technologie Roumanie. The first models are in Romania and from now on the project is a Romanian one, from design to industrialization, design and acquisitions. The car is here. A meeting of Dacia executives took place in Bucharest in Romania, I spent a week here in one of the first meetings since the pandemic “, said Denis le Vot, executive vice president, CEO for Dacia and Lada, during a round table with Gilles Le Borgne, EVP, Engineering, Renault Group, Laurens van den Acker, Group Chief Designer
Renault, together with Mihai Bordeanu, the president of Automobile Dacia, and Martin Nuernberger, the new head of design for Dacia and Lada.
“Yesterday (Thursday, September 9 – ed.) All the teams from Russia, Morocco, South America met because the program is huge. We are talking about six cars, four industrializations, three brands, and everything is done here at RTR. Today we have 4,000 people working in the engineering part and 2,700 in the Renault Group “, said Gilles Le Borgne.
The stake of the future Duster is that although it will be made on the same new platform, it will have more derivatives.
“The first car in this program will be the new Duster, after which will come more variants, more brands, including Lada, Renault.
The first will come after a slightly longer interval, not 156 weeks, but almost 190 weeks, but the next will come in the next 3 years. Of the six cars, five will come in three years from launch and the first comes in four because we are talking about a family approach to control each variant “, explained Gilles Le Borgne.
Most likely, the third generation of the Duster SUV will also be assembled in Mioveni, but whether Bigster will also come here or how the Dacia SUVs will be produced will be established later.
