The competition is organized by the Patent Office in cooperation with the State Education Content Center, the association “Latvian Association of Professional Patent Attorneys”, the Latvian National Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, as well as the association “Junior Achievement Latvia”. Students, joining teams of two to three people, are invited to create tasks according to three age groups: 4th to 6th grade, 7th to 9th grade and 10th to 12th grade. The three best works of each group will be awarded with modern and up-to-date gifts for young people, including smart watches “Forerunner45 / 45S” from the online store “garminshop.lv”, headphones “Aftershokz Open Move”, as well as scooters from the online store “eleme.eu” “Razor A125 Kick Scooter Clear GS”. One of the winning teams will receive a World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Student Trophy. In turn, all participants will receive a special surprise from the supporter stores.

Pupils are invited to create three tasks on the topic of intellectual property, which would be relevant to the peers of the creators, inspiration can be drawn from the examples in the methodological material “Journey into the World of Industrial Property” (more information here). Young people are invited to focus on the following topics: intellectual property, inventions and patents, trademarks, designs, protection against counterfeiting and the importance of industrial property in business.

Students can create creative tasks by photographing, filming, taking tests and crossword puzzles, as well as other creative expressions, in order to stimulate interest in the importance of intellectual property today and in business. “Young people’s approach to various tasks is much more interesting and full of ideas than adults, so this year we have decided not to limit them to a video competition, but to look at this complex topic more broadly. We encourage students to prepare different solutions that would be interesting for peers,” Acting Director of the Board Baiba Graube.

The works developed for the student teams must be submitted to the competition “Creative Intellectual” by October 18, 2021, and the jury will evaluate them from October 25 to 29. The announcement of the winners and the awarding of the best works is planned for November. More about the competition here. Previously, the Patent Office organized a student video competition “Create. Do. Protect”, the aim of which was to encourage the creation of works that respect and protect brands, new inventions and designs.
