Agents of the National Police and the Police of France and Italy have been patrolling together since August 2 in Benidorm to reinforce the attention to tourists, a service that will last until the middle of the month.
A French agent and two Italians are the police officers stationed in the tourist capital of the Costa Blanca within the framework of the ‘European Police Stations’ project that seeks to improve tourist service and guarantee greater security for foreign citizens.
In this way, a collaborative process begins in which, as on previous occasions, French, Italian, Portuguese and German troops will be stationed in areas of great tourist influx of Spain during different periods of time.
During their stay, they develop uniform police services and citizen service, patrolling the streets with the greatest influx of tourists on foot and by vehicle, as well as along the Levante and Poniente beaches.
Since 2008, the collaboration has been growing every year
The European Police Stations Project began in 2008 in collaboration with France, expanding in 2012 with Portugal, with Italy in 2014 and with Germany in 2020, incorporating new trips each year due to the good reception both in Spain and abroad. This year will be the first to be held in the cities of Alicante, Estepona, Granada, Marbella and Vigo.
The French Police Nationale, the Italian Polizía di Stato and the Portuguese Polícia de Segurança Pública will coincide in the city of Santiago de Compostela at the same time, in order to carry out patrols made up of four nationalities. In other towns such as Madrid, Alicante, Benidorm or Granada, police from more than one of the participating countries will coincide, forming police groups of up to three different nationalities.
The functions of the police will be, among others, to carry out patrols, preferably on foot, but also by vehicle, in areas with a greater influx of tourists to prevent crime on public roads; make contact with citizens in general and, in particular, with tourists of their nationalities to assist them in translation work and, lastly, help and support citizen complaints, among others. In addition, foreign policemen will patrol in their service uniform.
Reciprocity by the National Police
Agents of the National Police of Spain will also be posted in foreign locations. Among them, this year they will be present in cities such as Paris, in France, or in the Portuguese cities of Lisbon, Nazaré, Oporto and Villa Real de San Antonio.
