Christmas in San José is a time of celebration for everyone, from daytime family activities, bullfighting to late-night bars Zapote, the Tope (horse parade) and carnival.
Zapote
The fun begins on Christmas day when the Zapote Popular Festivities (http://www.fiestaszapote.com/). The annual event that runs through January 5 has something for everyone: rides for the kids, bulls for the grown-ups, and nightly mega-bars for revelers.

The Public Force (police) recommended moderation in alcohol consumption. Police Chief Juan José Andrade is also asking parents to make sure their children wear proper identification, including a phone number, in case they get lost in the crowd. Andrade also recommends doing the same for the elderly and people with disabilities.
The Zapote Fair is the largest of the seasonal fairs, located in the Zapote Exhibition Center east of San José, the 12-day event cannot be without bulls.

The annual Tope or Horse Parade on December 26, beginning in the east of Parque La Sabana, along Paseo Colón and Avenida Segunda.
About 700 from the Public Force and 200 municipal police will be available to keep things under control.
Carnival
The carnival takes place on Friday (December 27). The annual event was held in San José, but in the last two years it has moved to Desamparados, the most densely populated areas on the south side of San José.

The event features marching bands, floats, masquerades, and cheerleaders. A vintage car show is also a must-see during carnival.
This year the event begins at the Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados High School and ends at Villa Olimpica, from 11 am to 5 pm
